Non-Protected – FULL GRAIN FULL ANILINE – NATURAL LEATHER COLORS

This full-grain leather is prized and desired by the leather connoisseur as it is the finest of leathers with natural animal markings and grain. This leather gets its name from the aniline dyes that are used to produce it. Hides are soaked or tumbled with aniline dyes in large rotating stainless steel drums. The translucent dyes permeate the leather giving it color without covering up any natural markings or grain pattern. The process is much like applying stain to a wooden surface, you see the grain. Hides dyed in this manor vary in intensity of color due to the amount of dye that is absorbed by each hide. In the final milling process, the dyed hides are tumbled in large rotating drums to soften the hand or feel of the leather. Heat may also be added during the milling process to enhance the grain. The result of this tanning process is exceptionally soft leather in its most natural state. Color pigments or protective top coats are never added to full aniline leather.

Due to the lack of these additional protective steps, the aging characteristics of full anilines are different than other types of leathers. They will absorb moisture, oils and other spills that over time will produce a rich patina, much like a well-worn bomber jacket. Sunlight will readily fade full aniline leather, therefore exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided. Due to the natural characteristics of these leathers, Classic Leather cannot assume responsibility for their long term wearing qualities, please see the Classic Leather Natural Leather Policy.

NON-PROTECTED FULL-GRAIN NATURAL FULL-ANILINE LEATHER POLICY
Classic Leather offers only the finest Natural Leathers that are full-grain and drum-dyed. Natural Leathers produce the best “hand” or feel and reflect the true appearance of leather, including range marks, fat wrinkles, healed scars and color variance. These natural characteristics are part of the prestige of owning Natural Full-Grain Leathers and are not defects. Natural Leathers are valued for their wonderful feel and uniqueness. However, they are not impervious to body oils, direct light or spills, as they have no (or minimal) protective finish applied to them. Due to their inherent characteristics, Natural Leathers cannot be warranted.

LEATHER COLOR PATTERN DESCRIPTIONS:

ARBOR – Arbor possesses a timeless beauty that is defined by natural markings and other distinctive characteristics within each hide. The pull-up in this leather provides warm highlights and a slight two-tone effect. The color palette offers many rich hues. Arbor has an exceptionally soft, buttery hand/feel and appeals to any lifestyle from sophisticated rustic to casual. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, aniline surface pigment, no top coat, not fade resistant, no color uniformity.

ECHO – Echo will easily show scratches, more so than other natural non-protected leathers, so be aware. Echo is created by using a soft oil tannage process, followed by a paraffin top coat to provide a clear, translucent finish. A vibrant pull-up producing rich contrasts in color enhance the beauty of this leather. Echo will continue to burnish and polish over time, aging like a fine antique. This leather may be used in any application from contemporary to traditional. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, aniline surface pigment, wax top coat, not fade resistant, no color uniformity.

LODGE – is a distressed, worn, weathered and aged looking leather. Inspired by rustic dusty cowboy boots of the 80’s, Lodge is aniline dyed for color and will exhibit natural color variation from hide to hide. Oils are used to create the distressed pull-up appearance of this leather. Some healed scars and brand marks will be present and give each piece individual character. Lodge will develop a rich patina as it ages, adding to its timeless appeal and charm. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, Aniline surface pigment, Oil-pull-up top coat, no fade resistance, no color uniformity.

RETREAT – is a leather with truly unique personality and character. Light hand-sanding accentuates the natural markings Mother Nature has provided. Some wax is added to create a slight pull-up effect, followed by a coat of silicon to soften the raspy surface. Retreat is truly rustic in every sense of the word. Range marks, scars and significant variations in color are part of its beauty and should be expected. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, Aniline surface pigment, no top coat, no fade resistance, no color uniformity.

SHERIDAN – combines the beauty and rustic charm of a genuine naked leather. It suede like surface highlights all the hallmarks of nature. The surface is hand buffed and burnished by skilled leather artisans to create the soft silky feel giving it a warm cozy feel. Subtle variations in tone and intensity from hide to hide gives Sheridan unique individual character. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, surface pigment aniline dyes, no top coat, no fade resistance, no color uniformity.

SU CASA – is infused with natural oils to produce a soft subtle feel. Additional dry milling of the hides create a color burst within each hide as the leather is pulled and applied to different styles. Su Casa will exhibit natural shading and Mother Nature’s handiwork such as scars and other markings. Su Casa is perfect for Rustic Traditional and easy living environments. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, Aniline surface pigment, wax top coat, no fade resistance, no color uniformity.

TAVERN – The hides used to produce Tavern are hand-picked to celebrate the natural hallmarks of nature. An innovative staining process that uses waxes instead of aniline dyes is used to help create a naturally “worn in” aesthetic. Waxes are meticulously applied by hand in layers to emulate a more authentic aged appearance. This unique hand staining process creates an ideal vintage-inspired option for all living spaces. Top grain, full grain, drum dyed, surface pigment wax, wax top coat, no fade resistance, no color uniformity.
