Leather Characteristics

In a world of manmade materials, real leather is a natural product like gemstones, exotic woods or any other natural material, hides vary in beauty and integrity. All manners of influences can affect their look and texture - genetics, environment and handling of the hide. Over its life, every hide acquires a personality. The inevitable accumulation of wrinkles and stretch marks, run-ins with barbed wire, healed scars, encounters with insects, thorns and branding irons leave "beauty" marks. All of these events combine to give each hide a distinctive character and any of these markings may be present on your furniture and is your assurance that you have a true top grain, full grain leather. Leather is a natural product; grain pattern and color may vary from hide to hide and within the hide.

Leather Types

Protected Aniline Leathers
This top grain, full grain leather has minimal marks, scars and scratches. After the leather is aniline dyed, a thin coat of color pigment is applied to make the color more uniform. Next, a light protective finish coat is applied to provide scratch resistance plus sunlight and stain resistance, without altering its natural softness.

Slightly Protected Aniline Leathers
This top grain, full grain leather has minimal marks, scars and scratches. After the leather is aniline dyed, a thin coat of color pigment is applied to make the color more even. Protection against scratches, stains and fade resistance is very limited on these hides.

Pull-Up Aniline Leathers
Pull-up leathers are aniline dyed hides that have a waxed or oil base pull-up finish that creates a subtle color burst and highlights when the leather is stretched or pulled around corners. These top grain, full grain hides include all the natural markings to create a worn or rustic look. Protection is very limited on these hides.

No Protection - Natural - Aniline Leather
These hides are the softest and most expensive hides. They are tanned to be buttery soft with natural scars and markings still visible. These hides will show variation, because different parts of the hides absorb the dye differently. In some cases these top grain, full grain hides are cut thicker and shrunk to enhance the grain, creating an extremely rich hand or feel.

Leather Color Descriptions

BOLERO - Protected Leather - is a full grain leather with even coloration throughout the entire hide. Superior selection of European hides are hand selected for Bolero. These hides are recognized industry wide for their clean surfaces and excellent cutting yields. Luxurious soft hand or feel and smooth supple surface make this one of the most beautiful leathers available and is appreciated worldwide. The protective finish allows Bolero to be suitable for most public and private environments.

CALEDONIA - Protected Leather - is a glove soft top grain leather made from the finest European hides. This leather offers an exceptionally soft, silky feel while providing a moderate protection. It is hand rubbed to create a subtle hi-lo effect with varying color shades. Each full grain hide is carefully caressed to create a unique signature by the artist and the care of his work.

CHESTERFIELD - Protected Leather - is a premium top grain full grain leather that offers an exceptionally soft silky hand or feel, enhanced with an application of a wax touch agent. Chesterfield leather is top sprayed with a translucent solution to give the leather a gentle clouding or smoke effect. This process creates a natural glow and depth that enhance the sophisticated appeal of this leather.

OLD ENGLISH - Protected Leather - leathers character is defined by the subtle two-tone effect and the luxurious soft hand. This top grain full grain leather features a timeless look to be handed down over the generations. Sophisticated yet durable, Old English is the perfect choice for those that require easy maintenance yet still desire the elegance associated with leather.

PROMENADE - Protected Leather - Promenade leathers distinct visual effects are enhanced by its bold two-tone effect. The enticement of the rich color story will appeal to the consumer that desires and appreciates the elegance of "Hand Worked" leather. As a "hand-rubbed" article each hide will have its own personality. Because it is a top grain, full grain, hand worked article each hide will have subtle variations in color and effect.
